Girls of Summer

In order to alleviate this thoroughly wintery atmosphere we are having in London (its freezing!) I am uploading some pictures taken in the summer, a time of t-shirts and flowing dresses! These were taken of friends of mine in August with a mixture of camera's and lenses.

Where is my mind..

Where have I been for the last fortnight? It feels like only yesterday I put up a post about my content for the Wild Photos show..

I have been on a 16 day long binge of work and travel culminating in a 4 day trip to Moscow and then 3 days working for Apple training Canon resellers, I managed to shoehorn in a bit of photography but nothing serious, Moscow was a holiday after-all. I worked at the Canon Pro Solutions show delivering 4 hours of presentations a day about Aperture 2 workflow and somehow still had my voice left for a few days working with Wacom before going down to Media Pro for another round of convergent media presentations.

Today, I popped down to London to take some pictures at the Lord Mayor's inauguration ceremony, full of soldiers, sailors, butchers, tailors and tinkers I managed to see the whole thing before the terrible weather descended..

Next week I will upload some of the studio stuff I have been working on.

Last Days

I had some spare time on Tuesday after a cancelled work commitment and knowing I had 2 presentations at the Wild Photo's '09 show to deliver with only urban video footage I took a trip to Richmond Park with a few camera's to shoot some stuff to talk about.

I used video DSLR's and 1Ds Mk3 to produce a mixed stills and video piece, edited and colour graded it in Final Cut Pro:

Minimalist Landscapes

Here are some minimal landscapes created from parts of photos taken in Scotland, I like to use material I have shot on a location, even if the original image doesn't work on its own - be it not right from a composition point of view, underexposed or overexposed - I never like to waste footage, foe these images I took elements of "broken" photos and worked them together to make new compositions, they are not real places but sort of like landscape mashups...

Chinatown

I went to Chinatown a weekend or so ago, I'm always struck by how overtly different it looks to other quarters of the city, London has a lot of areas with a distinct cultural flavour but chinatown is so bright and well..... red.

These images were processed in Aperture 2 to give them a sort of 90's style film look, Aperture is a very flexible tool, more powerful than you initially think if you came from Photoshop for your image adjustment, all the tools for fine tuning everything from individual colour bandwidths to mid-tone contrasts are in the adjustments panel and of course you have the advantage of working on an original RAW file so you have a greater bandwidth to work on particularly on highlights.

Mega Rave Video

I have put together a mixture of stills and video clips from the Paris "Mega Rave" Its a fun subject as it differs from my usual subject matter ( ..mountains... ) Its great having the ability to shoot high quality video and stills from the same body, in my case I'm currently using a prototype 500D as my second body, it goes out with me on days when I don't have a clear idea of what I want to shoot and tends to capture more oddities and random moments than the 1Ds does.

Paris Megarave

On Saturday I accidentally wondered into a giant street party. The event was a warm-up parade for a giant "Mega-Rave" being held in the centre of town, all the big radio stations in Paris had Techno DJ's out on floats blasting out dance music at full volume and every teenager in Paris was out on the street drinking, dancing on bus stops.. it was crazy!

I took the 500D (Pre-Production) to Paris, I was going to take the 1Ds but I really wanted the choice to shoot a bit of video so I went with a smaller body and took some extra glass, as usual all post done in Aperture 2.
